This Spector 5 string bass was converted to what I call a 12 fret fretless for bassist Pat Love. The toughest part about making this modification for Pat was to make sure that the transition from fretted to fretless was smooth. To achieve this I used a very small fret wire and tapered the height of the frets slightly as you got closer to the fretless part of the board. This allowed me to keep a balanced light action and the smooth transition Pat was looking for.
